Absolute values are important in geometry because the lengths and distances of shapes
are all positive values. When those values are graphed on an (X, Y) coordinate plane
their addition or subtraction may result in negative numbers but the actual distance
(defined by the absolute value) defines the relevant length or diameter in Geometry.
This video may be used as a refresher for how to find the absolute value:
Absolute value is also important in many ways throughout life. For
example, profits and losses are usually expressed as absolute values instead of
positives and negatives.
